The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh was one of the stars of India's historic Women's World Cup 2025 triumph. Richa smashed 12 sixes in the tournament - the joint-most by a player in a single edition of the Women's World Cup - turning games around with her power-hitting. In the semi-final and final, Richa once again showcased her prowess, scoring 26 and 34 respectively at crucial junctures. It has now been revealed that Richa played both games enduring the pain of a hairline fracture in her finger.
Richa's childhood coach Shib Shankar Paul revealed the extent of the injury to the middle finger of her left hand.
"The middle finger of her left hand had a hairline fracture ahead of the semi-final, yet she batted through it. She endured that pain, and that tells us about her immense mental strength," Paul said in an interview with Sportstar.
Richa smashed 26 off 16 balls against Australia in the semi-final, turning the tide in India's favour during their record run chase of 339. In the final, her late 24-ball 34 helped India get close to the 300-run mark.
