India U17 football team beat Iran 2-1:Qualify for Asian Cup 2026; will participate in the tournament for the 10th time

India registered a spectacular win in their final Group D match by defeating Iran 2-1 at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad and qualified for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026. With this victory, India has secured its 10th appearance in the tournament.

Iran needed a draw to qualify

Before the match, Iran was considered a strong contender. They had seven points and only needed a draw. On the other hand, India had four points and needed a win at all costs to advance from the group.

Score 1-1 at half-time

In the 19th minute, Iran's Amirreza Valipour scored a goal, increasing India's difficulties. But the Indian team did not give up under pressure.

Just before half-time, on a penalty received in additional time (45+1 minutes), Dalalmuan Gangte scored a goal, making the score 1-1.

India's aggressive play in second half

Right from the start of the second half, India displayed fast and aggressive football. In the 52nd minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Iran's defender, Gurnleba Wangkhairakpam scored a brilliant goal, giving India a 2-1 lead.

After this, Iran put all its effort into equalizing. They tried to score goals with free-kicks, crosses, and continuous attacks, but goalkeeper Rajroop Sarkar and the Indian defense stood strong like a wall. Sarkar made several crucial saves, maintaining the team's lead.

Iran increased pressure in the final minutes

In the final minutes, Iran increased the pressure even more, but the Indian players remained composed and played intelligently. Finally, when the final whistle blew, India's historic victory was confirmed. This win became an excellent example of courage, belief, and superb teamwork.
